The supplier type is used for internal categorization purposes as an extra layer of identification, and a way of grouping similar suppliers together. Suppliers that fall under the same type can be filtered in the supplier listing page and other pages where suppliers may appear.

There isn’t currently an option to add custom supplier types, and no special features outside of categorization currently exist for each different supplier type.
