Category Import Errors

This guide walks through the potential errors you may experience when importing categories into Tradogram and provides solutions for resolving each issue.

CSV Column Headers Do Not Match

This indicates that the column headers in your import file differ from the headers in our official template.

To resolve this issue:

  1. Click the Download Template button to obtain the latest, correct template.
  2. Copy your existing import data into the newly downloaded template.
  3. Save and re-upload the new file.

Name is Mandatory

The Category Name field is a required field in Tradogram. A category cannot be imported or created without a name. To fix this, ensure the Name field is filled in for every category row in your import file.

Parent Category does not exist

This error means the parent category name you entered in your import file does not match any existing category in your Tradogram account. There are two ways to solve this issue:

  1. Create the Parent Category: Manually create the required parent category in Tradogram before running the import.
  2. Order the Import File: In your import file, list the parent categories first, and then list the subcategories that will link to those parent categories in a subsequent row.

Category Name already exists

Categories cannot have duplicate names, even if they belong to different parent categories.

For example, if you have a parent category named "Marketing" and another named "Sales," you cannot have a subcategory named "Software" under both.

To fix this, we recommend using a unique naming structure that includes the parent context, such as:

  • Marketing Subcategory: Marketing - Software
  • Sales Subcategory: Sales - Software

Category Code not Found

This error is specific to when you are attempting to update existing categories by exporting and then re-importing the CSV file. If the category code in your import file (found in Column A) does not match the code in the system, the system cannot find the record to update. To verify and correct the codes, export the category CSV and review Column A.

Category name/number already exists in the Current Import

This means that you have two identical rows in your import file. Specifically, there is another line with the exact same values for the Name and Parent Category fields. Review your import file and ensure every category entry is unique.
